Montana Flooding Assistance

If you are a resident of Carbon, Park, Stillwater or Yellowstone Counties and have lost work due to recent flooding, you may be eligible for unemployment assistance from the Montana Department of Labor & Industry.

Most impacted individuals who have lost work will be eligible for regular unemployment insurance benefits.

Select the Option Below that most resembles your situation:
  • If you lost work due to the flooding disaster, cannot get to work, or your workplace has been destroyed or damaged

    You are likely eligible for regular unemployment insurance benefits.

    Then apply for benefits and follow the instructions to file for unemployment insurance. You can also call our Claims Processing Center at (406) 444-2545 for assistance

  • If you are not eligible for regular unemployment

    You may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). DUA is a federal program available to individuals who do not qualify for regular UI benefits.

    You may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) if you meet some of the requirements below.
    • You do not quality for regular unemployment benefits from any state
    • You worked or were self-employed or were scheduled to begin work or self-employment
    • You could/can no longer work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to the place of employment as a direct result of the disaster
    • You were/are unable to reach your job or self-employment location because you must travel through the affected are and are prevented from doing so by the disaster
    • You establish that the work or self-employment you could/can no longer perform was your primary source of income
    • You could not/cannot perform work or self-employment because of an injury as a direct result of the disaster
    • You became the breadwinner or major support of a household because of the death of the head of the household due to the disaster

    Individuals will need their Social Security Number, a copy of their most recent federal income tax forms or check stubs, and documentation to support they were working or self-employed when the disaster occurred.

    To receive DUA benefits, all required documentation must be submitted within 21 days from the day the DUA application is filed. The first possible week of compensation for those individuals who qualify for DUA is the week ending XXXXXX.
